Annual Dermatology Symposium

The 2025 Dermatology Symposium took place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Sheraton Refuge Hotel and Conference Center in Flowood, MS. We are sincerely thankful to all of our attendees and speakers for making this year's event a success. In addition, we especially thank our sponsors who made this event possible.

Awards and Promotions

National Awards:

Dr. Thy Huynh is the 2025 recipient of two prestigious awards: American Academy of Dermatology (AAD's) Excellence in Patient Care and Women's Dermatologic Society (WDS) Volunteer of the Year Award. She has served as a member for the past four years in the Women’s Dermatologic Society’s Community Service & Public Education Committee.

Tenure Approval:

Dr. Vinayak “Vinny” Nahar was approved by the Promotion and Tenure Committee and School of Medicine Executive Faculty for Tenure effective July 1, 2025. Congratulations, Dr. Nahar!

Celebrating the Editor-in-Chief:

Dr. Robert Brodell recently ended his ten-year service as editor-in-Chief of the Practice Update: Dermatology.

Patient Safety Week:

Dermatology received the first-place prize as the department with the most improved call abandonment rate during UMMC’s annual Patient Safety Week. This achievement was a collaborative effort between dep artment leadership and scheduling, nursing, and administrative staff. We greatly appreciate everyone’s ongoing dedication to process improvement.

Holiday Fun:


A dessert competition was held at Dermatology’s annual holiday gathering. Melissa Burt (CMA, pictured left) Dr. Sarah Eley (PGY2), and Dr. Hollis Burrow’s (PGY4) wife Abigail Burrow’s desserts were chosen as the winners by popular vote. Dermatology appreciates all of our faculty and staff and enjoyed fellowshipping with those who were able to attend.
